Process: This was an attempt to create a composition through dislocating each stage of creation involved in the construction. The process began several years ago when I started a series of eighty drawings on postcard size matt board. After finishing the series I started again with the first drawing adding a second layer of colored wax. A third layer was added using acrylic paint. For the forth layer I used a technique involving clear oil pastel in combination with raw charcoal. The final layer was a spraying of shellac that acted as a sealant and gloss. With each layer I would work the series from beginning to end this would take roughly a year to complete.

I wanted to create an aesthetic based on random observations rather than a long term visual concept. By using a large number of images as a base I was able to forget and reproach each image freshly at each stage of composition. My approach was to create each composition unattached to its point of origin. With each phase the decision made rested in the moment rather than in any one notion perpetuated in the image.
