The
two pieces of visual artwork I produced in 2009 from this project were intimately
related. After collecting and recording the pennies from that year, I decided
to adhere the coins in an end-to-end fashion so that the rim of the coins was
the only aspect visible. I arranged the coins in a chronological fashion showing
the slow transformation of the pennies through history.
This
piece entitled Entropy Column was to be the first of many built
through the years as I continued to collect pennies with each year having
its own column.
As
a product of the Entropy Column construction I began creating hi-resolution
photo scans of certain pennies. The images selected were the coins that I could
not distinguish their year of mint. This process would lead to my future obsession
with scanning certain coins that I felt were aesthetically interesting. Below
are the first four images from the original fourteen images from the end
of
time (2009).
